2XL EGG - Grid & Deflector Guide by Level

This guide supports the CGS 2XL Woo Expander, showing which grids and deflectors fit at each level so you can quickly plan your setup.

Note: This applies to the CGS 2XL Woo and not the Big Green Egg 2XL Basket.

Top Level (Raised / Felt Line)

This level sits near the felt line and is ideal for raised cooking, allowing food to cook slightly farther from the heat.

2XL Cooking Grid

• EGG SKU: 119681
• Standard grid that comes with your EGG
• Sits at the top level near the felt line
• Primary cooking surface for most cooks
• Best for raised cooking and more even heat distribution

This level can also support additional cooking surfaces placed directly on top of the 2XL grid.

Middle Level (Top of Fire Ring)

This is used for direct and indirect setups.

Half-Moon XL EGG Plancha Griddle

• EGG SKU: 122995
• Designed for the XL EGG
• Sits on the middle level of the Woo
• Great for flat-top style cooking
• Use two for a full solid cooking surface

Full Round XL EGG Cooking Grid

• EGG SKU: 110145
• Replacement grid for XL EGG
• Creates a full cooking surface at the middle level

24" Half-Moon XL Cooking Grid (CGS)

• CGS SKU: 110145-Half
• Exclusive to CGS
• Use one for multi-zone cooking or two for a full round setup
• Note: XL EGGspander half-moon grids do not fit the Woo

Heat Deflectors (Recommended Setup)

• Half-Moon convEGGtor for 2XL
• EGG SKU: 120960
• Use two for full indirect (low & slow BBQ)
• Use one for split direct/indirect setups
• Deflectors sit below the cooking grid to create indirect heat

Note: All grids at this level sit directly on the Woo ring.

Lower Level (Closer to Fire)

This level sits closest to the fire and is used for high-heat searing, direct grilling, or building two-zone setups.

20" Round Stainless Grid (CGS)

• CGS SKU: CGS-20GRID
• Designed for the CGS system
• Sits at the lower level of the Woo
• Great for searing and direct grilling

18" Large EGG Cast Iron Grid

• EGG SKU: 122957
• Designed for the Large EGG
• Fits the lower level of the Woo
• Ideal for high-heat searing

Heat Deflectors

• Use half-moon deflectors between 18"–20"
• Half-moon designs are recommended for flexibility
• Position deflectors below the cooking grid to create smaller indirect zones

How It All Works Together

The CGS 2XL Woo creates three distinct cooking zones by height:

• Top Level: Raised cooking for gentler heat — ideal for chicken, sausage, and finishing cooks
• Middle Level: Popular cooking zone and setting up direct for BBQ cooks
• Lower Level: High-heat zone for searing steaks or building direct heat zones

Quick Setup Guide:

• Low & Slow: Two half-moon deflectors (middle level) + 2XL grid (top level)
• Two-Zone Cooking: One deflector + split grid setup, pick our levels
• Searing: Lower level grid with no deflector

By combining grids and half-moon deflectors, you can run full indirect cooks, multi-zone setups, or high-capacity cooks without changing your fire.
