Product Description
Ceramic Heat Deflectors & Pizza Stones for Smaller Kamados
CGS 10" ceramic half-moon heat deflectors and full-round pizza stones are designed for compatible rack systems in many smaller kamado grills with nominal 12" to 13.5" cooking grids.
Use one half-moon deflector to create a two-zone grilling setup, combine a pair for full indirect barbeque cooking, or choose the full-round stone for pizza and baking.
Before Ordering: Fitment and positioning depend on the specific grill and rack system being used. Always check the applicable CGS grill or rack-system product page for the recommended deflector size, support position and setup details.
Common setups:
These ceramic deflectors and stones require a compatible rack or support. Popular pairings include:
- MiniMax Big Green Egg: CGS MiniMax Woo or Spider
- Small Big Green Egg: CGS Small Woo or Spider
- Kamado Joe Jr.: CGS Joe Jr. Woo or Joe Jr. Rack
- Medium Big Green Egg: Select Spider setups
Why Choose Half-Moon Heat Deflectors?
- Two-zone grilling: Use one half-moon for direct & indirect zones
- Full indirect barbeque: Combine two halves for smoking BBQ
- Easier handling: Two smaller pieces are easier to place, remove and store
- Lower replacement cost: If one half breaks, you only need to replace one
- Direct fire access: Flexible positioning makes charcoal access possible
Setting Up the Full-Round Pizza Stone
For pizza cooks, position the full-round pizza stone above a separate heat deflector with an air gap between the two ceramic surfaces. The lower deflector blocks direct heat from the charcoal, while the elevated stone provides the baking surface.
For more even heating, the pizza stone should generally be the same diameter as, or slightly smaller than, the heat deflector positioned below it. Avoid using an oversized stone inside these smaller kamado grills.
Use cornmeal or parchment paper between the dough and stone to help prevent sticking. Check the applicable CGS grill or rack-system page for recommended placement, spacers and stone height.
Remember a Drip Pan
For barbeque cooks, we strongly recommend placing a stainless steel drip pan above the ceramic heat deflector. Ceramic is porous and can absorb grease and moisture over time. When trapped moisture is reheated, it can create steam within the ceramic and place additional stress on the stone.
Benefits of Ceramic Spacers
CGS Ceramic Spacers create an air gap above the heat deflector and can improve your setup in several ways:
- Under a drip pan: Helps reduce scorching and burnt drippings
- Under a pizza stone: Adds lift and creates thermal separation between the deflector and baking stone

Frequently Asked Questions
What's better: single-piece platesetter or half-moons?
Half-moons offer far greater operational flexibility. Use one side for two-zone cooking or combine a pair for full indirect smoking. Half-moons are also much easier to handle in tight spaces and cost less to replace individually if damaged.
Will the deflectors darken with use?
Yes. Ceramic deflectors naturally darken over time as they absorb smoke and cook residue. This natural patina is completely normal and does not impact thermal performance.
Can I high-heat clean burn the deflectors?
We do not recommend aggressive high-heat clean burns. Using a drip pan above the deflector prevents heavy grease soaking and eliminates the need for extreme heat burn-offs.
Do the deflectors require a rack?
Yes. The ceramic pieces require a compatible Woo Ring, Spider, or dedicated rack system to hold them securely above the charcoal ring inside the grill.
How should I arrange the stone for pizza?
Place the full-round pizza stone above a separate lower heat deflector with ceramic spacers creating an air gap between them. This protects the baking stone from harsh direct fire and provides ideal top-and-bottom baking heat.
