Product Description
Add Indirect, Two-Zone and Pizza Capability
Our 10" half-moon ceramic heat deflectors are built for indirect cooking on kamados with 12" to 13.5" cooking grids. Use one half-moon to create two-zone grilling, use a pair for full indirect BBQ smoking, or choose the full round stone if pizza is your main goal.
Common compact kamado setups: MiniMax Big Green Egg, Small Big Green Egg, Kamado Joe Jr. and select Spider setups.
Choose Your Setup
Best for two-zone grilling. Block heat on one side while keeping the other side open for direct cooking.
Best for full indirect BBQ, smoking, roasting and low-and-slow cooks.
Best as a dedicated pizza or baking stone when you want one continuous ceramic surface.
Why Half-Moons Work Well in Small Kamados
A heat deflector transforms your small kamado from a direct charcoal grill into a smoker, roaster, baking setup or two-zone cooker. The half-moon shape gives you more control than a single round stone because you can choose how much of the fire to block.
- Two-zone grilling: use one half-moon to create a protected indirect side while leaving the other side open for direct heat
- Full indirect BBQ: use two half-moons together for smoking, roasting and low-and-slow cooks
- Compact kamado fit: sized for smaller grills where airflow and clearance matter
- Easier handling: half-moons are easier to place and remove than one full-round ceramic stone
- Lower replacement cost: if one half breaks, you only replace one side
Common 10" Deflector Setups
- MiniMax Big Green Egg: CGS MiniMax Woo or Spider
- Small Big Green Egg: CGS Small Woo or Spider
- Kamado Joe Jr.: CGS Joe Jr. Woo or Joe Jr. Rack
- Medium Big Green EGG: Spider setups
- Other compact kamados: use where a 10" ceramic heat deflector is recommended
If your grill appears on the CGS website, check its product page for recommended rack systems, drip pans, spacers and setup details.
Use as a Pizza Stone
If you cook pizza often, go with a full round and dedicate it just for pizza. This helps keep your pizza stone free from grease and BBQ drippings.
When using a stone for pizza, create an air gap between the lower heat barrier and the pizza stone. The air gap helps even out pizza stone temperatures, which is important for cooking the crust evenly.
Remember a Drip Pan & Spacers
For BBQ cooks, we strongly recommend using a 10" stainless drip pan above the ceramic deflector. Ceramic can absorb grease and moisture over time. When trapped moisture heats up, it can steam inside the ceramic and add stress to the stone.
On BBQ cooks, CGS Ceramic Spacers can lift the drip pan off the deflector. This air gap helps reduce direct heat transfer from the ceramic to the pan, which can help limit burnt drippings during longer cooks.
👉 Pairing Tip: Need to elevate your pan? View our handy Ceramic Spacers, 3 per set.
Small kamados often have limited vertical clearance, so spacer use (BBQ & pizza) depends on your rack system and cooking grid position. Measure your setup first if vertical clearance looks tight.

FAQs
What's better: convEGGtor or half-moons?
For Big Green Egg users, half-moons are more versatile. Use one for two-zone grilling or use a pair for full indirect cooking. Half-moons are also easier to handle during setup and cost less to replace if one side breaks.
```Will the deflectors darken with use?
Yes. Ceramic deflectors naturally darken as they absorb smoke and cooking residue. This is normal and does not affect performance.
Can I high-heat clean burn the deflectors?
We do not recommend aggressive high-heat clean burns. Using a drip pan helps reduce buildup and the need for heavy cleaning.
