Create True Indirect Cooking in Your Primo Oval XXL
The Primo XXL (500) Oval Heat Deflector Plates (PG00323) transform your Primo Oval XXL into a powerful indirect cooking system. These ceramic plates sit just below cooking grids on the Deflector Racks -allowing for stable low & slow barbecue, roasting, and baking.
Why Use Heat Deflector Plates?
- True Indirect Cooking: Shields food from direct flame exposure.
- Even Heat Distribution: Helps maintain consistent dome temperatures.
- Low & Slow Ready: Essential for brisket, pork shoulder, ribs, and poultry.
- Two-Zone Flexibility: Run one plate for a direct/indirect setup or both for full indirect coverage.
How It Works
The ceramic plates sit inside the grill on a compatible heat deflector rack, creating a barrier between the charcoal and your cooking grid. This setup converts your Primo Oval XXL into an indirect smoker-style cooker. Use with any cook that needs protection from direct heat.
Sold as a pair. Use both plates for full indirect cooking, or run a single plate to create a two-zone setup.
XXL vs. XL Heat Deflector Plates — Confirm Your Model
These plates are designed specifically for the Primo Oval XXL (500).
They do NOT fit the Primo Oval XL.
- XXL Heat Deflector Plates (PG00323): Fit only the Primo Oval XXL.
- XL Heat Deflector Plates: Designed for the Primo Oval XL.
The XXL and XL grills require different plate sizes. If you own a Primo XXL, select the XXL Heat Deflector Plates (PG00323).
Model Clarification:
These plates fit the Primo Oval XXL. You may also see this grill referred to as the Oval 500, XX-Large, or 2XL. All of these names refer to the same Primo Oval XXL kamado.
