All About Heat Deflector Racks for Primo Oval Grills

Heat Deflector Racks are required for indirect cooking on your Primo Oval. They hold the ceramic deflector plates just below the cooking grids.

Most Common Uses

  • Two Racks + Two Plates: Full indirect setup for smoking and all-day barbecue cooks.
  • One Rack + One Plate: Divide the grill into direct and indirect zones for versatile two-zone grilling.

How They Work

The rack hangs down inside the fire bowl, supporting the deflector plate under the cooking grid. Setup is simple: place the rack, add the deflector plate, then set the grid—usually in the raised position for best results.

  • CGS Racks: Fabricated from 1/4" stainless steel bar, drop 1.5" into the firebox, provide easier lump access, and can also support a wok. Made in our wire shop.
