Product Description

Smoke, Barbeque & Create Two-Zone Cooks

Designed for use with the Kamado Joe Divide & Conquer Flexible Cooking System, these ceramic heat deflectors shield food from direct charcoal heat while helping you create controlled indirect cooking zones inside your kamado.

Available in two sizes and sold in pairs:

  • 15-inch: Classic Joe Series and 18-inch Konnected Joe
  • 19.5-inch: Big Joe Series and Konnected Big Joe

Use one half-moon for a direct-and-indirect two-zone setup, or install both for smoking, roasting, baking, and other full indirect cooks. The two-piece design lets you configure the grill around the food and cooking method instead of being locked into one setup.

Flexible Heat Control for Kamado Cooking

Made from durable, heat-retaining ceramic, the half-moon deflectors absorb and diffuse heat while shielding food from the intense direct heat from the charcoal below.

One Deflector — Direct & Indirect

Kamado Joe Divide & Conquer System set up for two-zone grilling with a half-moon ceramic deflector under one side of the cooking grids.

Use a single deflector to create two distinct cooking zones. One side remains open to direct charcoal heat for grilling and searing, while the deflector protects the other side for gentler indirect cooking.

This setup makes it easy to move food between hotter and cooler areas without rebuilding the grill during the cook.

Two Deflectors — Full Indirect

Kamado Joe Divide & Conquer System with two half-moon ceramic deflectors set up for indirect heat and barbeque smoking.

Install both deflector plates for broad indirect-heat coverage. This is the traditional setup for low-and-slow barbeque, smoking, roasting, baking, and other oven-style cooks.

The ceramic plates help diffuse the heat throughout the cooking chamber while protecting food from direct exposure to the charcoal below.

Key Features

  • Half-moon design: Two-piece configuration gives you more flexibility when creating cooking zones.
  • Ceramic construction: Retains and diffuses heat for more controlled indirect cooking.
  • Two-zone cooking: Use one deflector for separate direct and indirect areas.
  • Full indirect cooking: Use both plates together for smoking, roasting, baking, and longer cooks.
  • Divide & Conquer compatible: Designed to work with Kamado Joe's Flexible Cooking System.
  • Versatile cooking: Ideal for smoking, roasting, baking, indirect grilling, and low-and-slow barbeque.
  • Built for kamado temperatures: Ceramic construction is designed for the demanding heat of charcoal grilling.

Compatibility

The 15-inch Classic Joe deflectors are designed for Kamado Joe Classic Joe Series grills and the 18-inch Konnected Joe. They are also compatible with the Large Big Green EGG and other select round 18-inch ceramic grills.

The 19.5-inch Big Joe deflectors are designed for Kamado Joe Big Joe Series grills and the Konnected Big Joe. They are also compatible with the XL Big Green EGG and other select round 24-inch ceramic grills.

Important: The fit between the deflector plates and the lower ring of the Divide & Conquer system is tight. CGS recommends using Kamado Joe deflectors unless you know for certain that a third-party option will fit. A difference of even 1/8-inch in diameter can determine whether the deflectors sit properly in the rack.

Three Helpful Accessories for Your Deflectors

1. Accessory Rack

Kamado Joe Divide & Conquer rack with the Accessory Rack positioned at the lowest tier.

For barbeque cooks, we recommend using the Accessory Rack to position the half-moon deflectors on the lower tier of the Divide & Conquer rack.

Raising the deflectors out of the firebowl improves airflow around the charcoal while maintaining the indirect heat protection you want above.

Kamado Joe Divide & Conquer rack with accessory rack, half-moon heat deflectors, CGS ceramic spacers, and drip pan for an indirect barbeque setup.

2. Drip Pan

Ceramic deflectors are porous and can absorb grease and drippings that fall directly onto them. A drip pan catches those drippings before they reach the ceramic, helping keep both the deflectors and the grill cleaner.

For easier cleanup, line the pan with foil in an overlapping + pattern.

3. CGS Ceramic Spacers

On two-tier Divide & Conquer racks, use CGS Ceramic Spacers between the deflectors and drip pan. The air gap helps reduce radiant heat transfer into the pan, minimizing burnt drippings and the unwanted odors they can create. The drip pan can then sit directly beneath the cooking grate.

On three-tier Divide & Conquer systems, you can use either CGS Ceramic Spacers or a second Accessory Rack on the middle tier to position the drip pan above the deflectors.
