Deflector Options for BBQ, Two-Zone & Pizza
Add indirect heat, two-zone grilling and pizza capability to your Small Big Green Egg with 10" or 12" ceramic heat deflectors. These deflectors block direct flame, help stabilize temperatures and let you smoke, roast, bake or create controlled direct and indirect zones.
Best paired with: CGS Small Woo, Small Spider setups and Small Big Green Egg indirect cooking accessories.
Choose Your Small EGG Setup
Best all-around choice for the CGS Small Woo. Use for BBQ, smoking and full indirect cooking with room for a 10" drip pan.
Gives more indirect coverage, but the tighter fit can restrict airflow in some setups.
Best for broader two-zone grilling because it better matches the Small EGG cooking grid.
Best as a small pizza or baking stone when you want one continuous ceramic surface.
Why 10" Deflectors Work Well on the Small EGG
The 10" half-moon deflectors are the most flexible option for the CGS Small Woo. They slide in and out from the side of the Woo, work well as a pair for indirect cooks and leave room for the recommended 10" stainless drip pan.
- BBQ and low-and-slow: use two 10" half-moon deflectors for indirect heat under the cooking grid
- Two-zone grilling: use one half-moon to create a direct side and an indirect side
- Easy Woo integration: 10" half-moons slide in and out from the side of the CGS Woo
- Efficient heat control: properly sized for the Small Big Green Egg ceramics
- Drip pan friendly: pairs well with the CGS 10" stainless drip pan for BBQ cooks
10" vs. 12" Half-Moon Deflectors
Both sizes can work in the Small Big Green Egg, but they are best for different jobs. The 10" half-moons are the safer all-around choice for BBQ and drip pan use. The 12" half-moon gives better zone coverage for grilling, but two 12" halves can be tight for full indirect cooking.
Simple rule: choose 10" half-moons for BBQ and overall flexibility. Choose one 12" half-moon when you want better two-zone coverage on the 13" cooking grid.
- 12" full round deflector and drip pan will not fit the Woo.
Use a Full Round Stone for Pizza
If pizza is the main goal, choose the 10" full round ceramic stone and dedicate it to pizza and baking. Keeping a separate pizza stone helps prevent grease and BBQ drippings from carrying over to your crust.
- Pizza: 10" full round stone is ideal for individual pizzas and kids’ pizzas
- Baking: useful for small breads, desserts and compact kamado baking setups
- Air gap: ceramic spacers help even out stone temperature when your setup allows room
Remember the 10" Drip Pan & Spacers
For BBQ cooks, pair the deflectors with the CGS 10" stainless drip pan. A drip pan helps shield the ceramic from grease and moisture, keeps the grill cleaner and helps extend the life of the deflectors.
The CGS 12" drip pan does not fit the CGS Small Woo or the Small Big Green Egg convEGGtor setup. Use the 10" drip pan for Small EGG BBQ setups.
CGS Ceramic Spacers are helpful for pizza because they create an air gap under the pizza stone. For BBQ cooks on the Small Woo, spacers are usually not recommended because vertical clearance is limited.
👉 Pairing Tip: For BBQ, use the 10" stainless drip pan above the deflectors. For pizza, use ceramic spacers when your setup allows an air gap under the pizza stone.

FAQs
Which deflector setup is best for BBQ on the Small Big Green Egg?
For BBQ and low-and-slow cooking, the pair of 10" half-moon deflectors is usually the best all-around choice on the CGS Small Woo. This setup leaves room for the recommended 10" stainless drip pan.
Should I choose 10" or 12" half-moons?
Choose 10" half-moons for BBQ and overall flexibility. Choose one 12" half-moon when you want broader two-zone coverage on the 13" cooking grid.
Will a 12" full round stone or drip pan fit?
No. A full 12" round stone and drip pan are too large for the Small Woo’s top ring. The 12" half-moons do fit, but you’ll need to slip them in one at a time.
Which option is best for pizza?
The 10" full round stone is the better choice for pizza because it gives you one continuous ceramic surface. For best results, create an air gap under the pizza stone when your setup allows.
Should I use a drip pan?
Yes, especially for BBQ cooks. Use the CGS 10" stainless drip pan to help keep grease and moisture off the ceramic and make cleanup easier.
Should I use ceramic spacers?
Use spacers for pizza when your setup allows. For BBQ, it is not recommended, vertical clearance is limited.
