Product Description
Maximize Indirect Coverage & Flexibility in the Medium EGG
Our 14" ceramic heat deflectors are built for serious cooks using the Medium Big Green Egg. At approximately 5/8" thick, they handle the rigors of kamado cooking and deliver consistent performance.

Designed for use with the CGS Medium Woo Expander, these deflectors provide more flexibility than a one-piece ConvEGGtor. The half-moon design allows expanded full indirect, split-zone, or elevated setups.
The 14" size is optimized for the Medium EGG, giving you proper coverage without crowding airflow or limiting setup flexibility.
The Woo & deflector setup is what most Medium EGG owners use once they move beyond the factory ConvEGGtor.
Benefits of Half-Moon Deflectors in the Medium EGG
A heat deflector transforms your kamado from a grill into a barbecue smoker or dual-zone cooker by redirecting heat around the food. These deflectors are designed for use with the CGS Medium Woo to properly support and position them.
- True indirect BBQ — ideal for brisket, ribs, pork butt, and poultry
- Two temperature zones — perfect for reverse sear and holding
- Proper fit for Medium EGG — maximizes usable cooking area
- Even heat distribution — reduces hot spots
- Versatile setups — bake, roast, or smoke with confidence
Pair vs. Full
A pair of half-moon deflectors is the most versatile option for most cooks:
Half-moons
- Easier to place before a cook
- Easier to remove during a cook
- Use both for full indirect BBQ setups
- Use one for two-zone (direct + indirect) grilling
- Use both together for pizza
- Lower replacement cost if one breaks
Full round - Pizza Stone
These 14" deflectors can double as a pizza stone, but avoid pushing them too high into the dome, where heat becomes harder to manage.

Don't Forget the Drip Pan
For longer cooks, we strongly recommend using a CGS 14" drip pan above the deflector. This helps protect the ceramic, reduces buildup, and keeps your kamado cleaner.

Benefits of a Gap
On BBQ cooks, CGS Ceramic Spacers lift the drip pan off the deflector, reduce heat transfer, and help prevent burnt drippings and off-odors.
With the Medium Woo, 5/8" spacers between the deflector and drip pan are recommended. Shown is the Medium Woo indirect setup with 2nd level sliding grid.

Pro Tip: On pizza cooks, use a gap between the deflector and pizza stone for more consistent stone temperatures.
FAQs
How does the 14" compare to the Big Green Egg ConvEGGtor?
The CGS 14" deflector provides optimal coverage for the Medium EGG and offers more flexibility than the one-piece ConvEGGtor.
Will heat escape between two half-moons?
Yes, but the amount is minimal and does not meaningfully affect cooking performance.
Can I foil the deflectors?
You can, but creases in foil can create pinholes that may leak. Avoid wrapping the bottom side, as extreme heat could damage the foil.
Can they be used as both a deflector and pizza stone?
Yes. For pizza, we recommend parchment paper or cornmeal to prevent sticking. Using a drip pan during BBQ cooks helps keep the deflector cleaner for pizza.
Can I high-heat clean burn the deflector?
We do not recommend it. Using a drip pan greatly reduces the need for cleaning.
Are half-moons better than a full round?
If you cook pizza frequently, a full round is a great dedicated option. For most setups, we recommend half-moons for their flexibility.
