More Coverage & Flexibility Than the ConvEGGtor

Our 16" (15.75" actual) ceramic heat deflectors are built for serious cooks. At approximately 5/8" thick, they handle the rigors of kamado cooking and deliver consistent performance.

Designed specifically for the Large Big Green Egg, these deflectors work seamlessly with the CGS Large Woo, CGS Large Adjustable Rig, and Large EGGspander.

More flexible than a one-piece deflector (ConvEGGtor), the half-moon design allows full indirect, split-zone, or elevated setups.

Compared to standard one-piece deflectors, the larger effective coverage helps reduce edge hot spots—especially important in the Large EGG where space is tighter.

While optimized for the Large Big Green Egg, these deflectors are also compatible with CGS systems for the Kamado Joe Classic, Pit Boss 24, and Louisiana Grills 24, and can double as a pizza stone.

Benefits of Half-Moon Deflectors in the Large EGG

A heat deflector transforms your kamado from a grill into a barbecue smoker or dual-zone cooker by blocking direct heat and redirecting it around the food. The deflectors require a rack (Woo, Adjustable Rig, EGGspander) to hold them.

  • True indirect BBQ — ideal for brisket, ribs, pork butt, and poultry
  • Two temperature zones — perfect for reverse sear and holding
  • Maximum coverage — especially useful on the Large EGG
  • Even heat distribution — reduces hot spots
  • Versatile setups — bake, roast, or smoke with confidence

Pair vs. Full

A pair of half-moon deflectors is the most versatile option for most cooks:

Half-moons

  • Easier to place before a cook
  • Easier to remove during a cook
  • Use both for full indirect BBQ setups
  • Use one for two-zone (direct + indirect) grilling
  • Use both together for pizza
  • Lower replacement cost if one breaks

Full round - Pizza Stone

These 16" can double as a pizza stone, but bigger isn’t always better:

  • Wider stones are harder to handle and move
  • Temperature control becomes more difficult
  • Smaller pizzas cook more consistently

Grill Compatibility

Large Big Green Egg — CGS 16" deflectors provide wider (better) indirect coverage than the Large ConvEGGtor and offer more flexibility in CGS systems.

  • CGS Large Woo Expander
  • CGS Large PSWoo & 3 Leg Spider
  • CGS Large Adjustable Rig System
  • EGGspander Basket

Classic Kamado Joe — Designed for use with the Divide & Conquer system or CGS accessories.

  • Divide & Conquer Rack (requires accessory rack)
  • CGS Adjustable Rig

Note: CGS 16" deflectors do not fit the lowest level of the Divide & Conquer system. Use with the Kamado Joe accessory rack above the firebowl.

Pit Boss 24 & Louisiana Grills 24 — Adds more capability than a full deflector.

  • CGS Woo Expander

Don't Forget the Drip Pan

For longer cooks, we strongly recommend using a drip pan above the deflector. This helps protect the ceramic, reduces buildup, and keeps your kamado cleaner. Double indirect on the Large Adjustable Rig is shown.

Benefits of a Gap

On BBQ cooks, CGS Ceramic Spacers lift the drip pan off the deflector, reduce heat transfer, and help prevent burnt drippings and off-odors.

On the CGS Woo, 5/8" is the maximum lift for the CGS drip pan. CGS 3 Leg Woo with second level shown.

Adjustable Rig users: the rig naturally creates spacing between the deflector and drip pan. A Slide Guide or pair of Crossbars is needed for each level. Go one or two levels between deflector and drip pan.

Pro Tip: On pizza cooks, use a gap between the deflector and pizza stone for more consistent stone temperatures.

FAQs

How does the 15.75" compare to the Big Green Egg ConvEGGtor?

The CGS 15.75" deflector provides nearly 2 more inches of indirect coverage vs the 14" circular portion of the ConvEGGtor.

Are these the same size as Kamado Joe deflector plates?

No. Kamado Joe Classic deflectors are approximately 15". CGS 15.75" deflectors will not fit the lowest level of the Divide & Conquer system.

Will heat escape between two half-moons?

Yes, but the amount is minimal and does not meaningfully affect cooking performance.

Can I foil the deflectors?

You can, but creases in foil can create pinholes that may leak. Avoid wrapping the bottom side, as extreme heat could damage the foil.

Can they be used as both a deflector and pizza stone?

Yes. For pizza, we recommend parchment paper or cornmeal to prevent sticking. Using a drip pan during BBQ cooks helps keep the deflector cleaner for pizza.

Can I high-heat clean burn the deflector?

We do not recommend it. Using a drip pan greatly reduces the need for cleaning.

Are half-moons better than a full round?

If you cook pizza frequently, a full round is a great dedicated option. For most setups, we recommend half-moons for their flexibility.
