Product Description
A Better Solid-Surface Option for Small Kamado Grills
The Kamado Joe Jr. Round Soapstone Cooking Surface gives you a smooth, solid cooking surface for fish, seafood, vegetables, steaks, burgers, and other foods that benefit from even contact heat.
Measuring approximately 10.5 inches in diameter, the round soapstone fits inside the 13.5-inch Joe Jr. cooking area while leaving open perimeter space for optimal airflow. The thick soapstone distributes heat evenly across the stone and helps minimize flare-ups by keeping drippings from falling directly into the fire.
Key Features & Benefits
- Even Heat Distribution: Thick soapstone spreads heat across the entire surface to help minimize hot spots.
- Reduced Flare-Ups: The solid surface keeps dripping fats and juices from falling directly into the charcoal fire.
- Smooth, Non-Stick Surface: Provides an excellent cooking surface for fish, scallops, shrimp, vegetables, and other delicate foods.
- Exceptional Searing: Once fully preheated, soapstone provides a hot, even surface for edge-to-edge browning on steaks and burgers.
- No Seasoning Required: Unlike cast iron, natural soapstone is non-porous and will not rust.
- Compact Joe Jr. Fit: Dedicated 10.5-inch round design creates a solid cooking zone inside the 13.5-inch Joe Jr.
What You Can Cook

- Fish & Seafood: Cook delicate fillets, scallops, and shrimp on a smooth surface without food falling through a cooking grid.
- Steaks & Burgers: Fully preheat the stone for a hot, evenly heated surface that produces excellent browning and crust.
- Vegetables: Cook sliced or smaller vegetables without losing pieces through the grate.
- Delicate Foods: The smooth surface provides controlled contact heat for foods that can be difficult to manage on an open grid.
Size & Compatibility
- Material: Natural non-porous soapstone
- Diameter: Approx. 10.5 inches
- Model Number: KJ15090720

Soapstone vs. Cast Iron
Both soapstone and cast iron are excellent high-heat cooking surfaces, but they cook differently. Soapstone provides a smooth, evenly heated surface with no open gaps for food or drippings to fall through. Cast iron is a better choice when you specifically want traditional raised grill marks or the versatility of a ribbed cooking surface.
- Soapstone: Smooth solid surface, even heat, reduced flare-ups, excellent browning, and no seasoning required.
- Cast Iron: Excellent high-heat cooking with traditional grate or griddle options; requires reseasoning to help prevent rust.
Care & Cleaning
- Thermal Shock Warning: Always allow the soapstone to heat up slowly. Let it cool down completely before washing. Never submerge or splash a hot stone with cold water.
- Wash with warm, soapy water and a soft brush or sponge.
- The soapstone can also be cleaned in the dishwasher once fully cooled.
- Store in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- Never place a hot soapstone directly on a table, countertop, or non-heat-resistant surface.
CGS Pro Tip: Give the soapstone plenty of time to fully preheat before adding food. Because of its mass, the stone takes longer to come up to temperature than a stainless cooking grid, but once heated it provides an exceptionally even cooking surface.
