The new & improved XL Spider 2.0—now features welded handles and a top ring for effortless control. Built tough in the USA from 304 stainless steel, this CGS-exclusive upgrade delivers unmatched flexibility.
At the top of the fire ring, manage your XL grid, heavy deflector, or wok with ease. Inside the fire ring, enjoy superior searing and grilling closer to the fire.
Pick the Spider that best matches your rack system or cooking style. All three versions fit the XL Big Green EGG kamado:
If you don’t use a rack system—or you’re just running the XL ConvEGGtor—any version will work fine.
Note: All cooking grids, deflectors, and woks mentioned in the description are compatible with every XL Spider model.
Like the original Spider, the Spider 2.0 drops its lower ring about halfway inside the fire ring, while the top ring rests securely on the fire ring. Three welded legs connect the rings, keeping the Spider 2.0 stable and properly positioned.
The new handles make it easy to move your entire Spider 2.0 setup in and out of the XL EGG. (Always use proper hand protection.)
Effortlessly lift your XL Stainless grid in and out of the EGG.
The XL Spider 2.0's lower ring supports 15 to 18-inch, full or half-moon deflector(s). It's a quick and simple way to set up indirect with the XL cooking grid on the fire ring. Shown below with a pair of 18-inch half-moons.
Use one CGS 18" Half-Moon Deflector to quickly set up a two-zone grilling system with the XL grid sitting on the fire ring.
Note: Only a single Big Green Egg XL Half-Moon Deflector (SKU 121820) will fit inside the fire ring. A pair of half-moons, or the full-round XL EGG deflector will not fit within the fire ring.
Pair with the Woo, Adjustable Rig, or EGGspander to manage the lower deflector without fumbling. Handle the deflectors independently of each other for easier lifts.
Depending on your top deflector setup, you'll have approximately 1/2 to 1-inch open gap between deflectors.
XL Griddles - Use the handles and top ring to manage the heavy XL Big Green EGG Cast Iron Grids. These grids are set atop the Spider's top ring at fire ring level.
Griddles - We recommend placing the XL Cast Iron Griddle(s) on the XL cooking grid. Do not lift the griddles without the XL Grid on the Spider 2.0. We recommend the same for the XL EGGspander.
The Spider's lower ring can support a grid to sear inside the fire ring for high-heat searing or blackening close to the fire. Recommended grid choices are
Perfect for reverse searing with the Adjustable Rig or Flexible 2nd Grid —move only the meat, not your setup.
Pro Tip: We prefer the 18" large BGE cast iron grid on the Spider 2.0 (shown above) over XL half-moon grids on the fire ring. The 18 gets closer to the lump, provides ample searing area, and is more cost-effective than buying two half-moons.
With the Adjustable Rig system, manage huge BBQ cooks: 6+ pork butts, 2 briskets, or 9 racks of ribs - all possible on two or three grids in XL EGG.
Drop in a 16"-20" round-bottom wok for authentic, restaurant-style stir fry. Offset wok handles if needed.
For a limited time, we'll continue to offer our original Spider (no handles/top ring). You'll have the same capabilities as the Spider's 2.0 bottom ring.
The XL Spider 2.0 is designed to work lower - at or inside the fire ring, while the CGS XL Woo and BGE EGGspander work higher, from fire ring to felt line.
Here is a breakdown of the ring placements:
This placement difference means the Spider 2.0 excels at searing close to the lump, wok cooking, and managing lower deflector placement for double indirect setups.
