Full Round and Half-Moon Replacement Cooking Grids for the XL EGG - just like OEM.
The full round is an exact match to the current Big Green EGG cooking grid (grate) that comes with the XL EGG. This grid is what holds your food. The true 24-inch grid is compatible with EGG and CGS accessories.
24 is not always 24:
This is important. Big Green EGG measures the actual diameter of the cooking grid to get 24 inches. Many Chinese made grills measure the total outside diameter of the grill to say it's 24. Thus, with these Chinese grills, 24 does not mean the cooking grid is 24. The grid is much smaller than 24 inches.
EGGspander Half-Moon Grids are Smaller and Different
The half-moon grids in the 5-piece EGGspander kit feature a smaller diameter and unique design that lets them fit inside and on the EGGspander's lower ring. The grids offered here are larger and won’t fit that space but do fit atop the EGGspander's top ring. Same is true for EGG's XL Replacement grid.
24 Half-Moon Grid
Big Green EGG does not offer a true 24" Half-Moon Grid, but we do. Folks like using this half grid atop our XL Woo Expander or EGG's EGGspander with a CGS 18" Half-moon Deflector underneath and an XL Big Green EGG, cast iron, searing grid/griddle next to the deflector. Similar to the image below. It's the perfect reverse sear/blacken set, as you don't have to re-adjust between steps.
What to do before ordering:
We recommend that you measure your cooking grid's diameter before ordering. We run into EGG owners regularly who thought they knew their EGG size, only to be mistaken.
Actual Cooking Grid Diameters:
Full Round is 24 inches in diameter.
The Half-Moon Grids will be either 12"x24" or 11.25"x24". We cut the full grid in half to get the half-moons and the full grid has an odd number of crosswires. Thus, one side is smidge wider than the other side. When using, the difference is irrelevant.
