Deflector Racks for Indirect & Two-Zone Cooking
Important: Deflector racks are sold in pairs. Each Primo Oval grill uses a pair.
Heat deflector racks support the ceramic heat deflector plates below the cooking grids on Primo Oval grills. Use both racks and both plates for full indirect cooking, or use one rack and one plate to create separate direct and indirect cooking zones.
Most Common Setups
- Two Racks + Two Plates: Creates a full indirect setup for smoking and low-and-slow barbecue cooks.
- One Rack + One Plate: Creates direct and indirect heat zones for flexible two-zone grilling.
How the Deflector Racks Work
Each rack hangs below the cooking grid and supports one ceramic deflector plate over the charcoal. Place the racks in the grill, set the deflector plates on the racks, then install the cooking grids above them.
Primo OEM or CGS Racks
For the Primo XL Oval and Large Oval, choose between genuine Primo racks or Ceramic Grill Store racks:
- Primo Racks: Genuine OEM deflector racks designed for the Primo Oval cooking system.
- CGS Racks: Fabricated in the USA from heavy-duty 1/4-inch stainless steel round bar. The racks drop approximately 1.5 inches below the cooking grid, provide easier access to the lump charcoal, and can also be used to support a wok.
For the Primo Junior Oval, only the genuine Primo deflector racks are available.
Fit & Ordering
- Fits: Primo XXL Oval, XL Oval, Large Oval, and Junior Oval grills
- Sold: As a pair — two deflector racks per set
- CGS Rack Material: 1/4-inch stainless steel round bar
- CGS Rack Drop: Approximately 1.5 inches below the cooking grid
