Medium Big Green EGG Expander, CGS Woo

CGS Expander with half-moon deflectors provides greater capability than EGG's Medium EGGspander & ConvEGGtor.

Note: The CGS Expander is specifically designed for the Medium Big Green EGG. 

CGS Expander vs. EGG ConvEGGtor & EGGspander:

When compared to EGG's ConvEGGtor & EGGspander, the CGS Expander stands out for its enhanced abilities when smoking BBQ and grilling with two zones.

When smoking barbeque, the CGS Expander does not use the ConvEGGtor. Instead, the Expander utilizes two CGS 13" half-moon deflectors.

The bigger 13" half-moon deflectors provide bigger indirect protection than the ConvEGGtor. Bigger is better as it provides better indirect protection when smoking long meats.

The half-moon deflectors sit above the fire ring on the Expander's raised lower ring. Getting them up ensures the airflow through the EGG is optimized. You cannot use the bigger 13" deflectors on the EGG EGGspander, as they would sit directly on and over the entire fire ring, stalling air movement.

Add the CGS 14" Stainless Drip Pan on the 13" half-moons and you extend indirect protection even further. The drip pan has a tapered edge that slowly moves the heat further out. Note, even though it may look like it fits, the 14" drip pan does not fit inside the ConvEGGtor. It is a smidge too big. Do not forget to foil the pan for easy clean-up.

Two Zone Grilling on the Medium Expander:

Another big advantage of half-moon deflectors is using one to create two zone grilling - half direct & indirect. You can use one of the 13-inch half-moons or opt to go bigger with one 15" half-moon deflector. Note, two 15" half-moon deflectors do not fit the Expander.

Grilling on a Raised Grid:

The Medium Expander raises the cooking grid near the top of the base (felt line) for grilling on a raised grid. Using the Expander is quick: Set it on the fire ring, add the cooking grid and start grilling. Note the Expander requires EGG's 16" Stainless Grid. 

The handles are a real plus - easy in & out of the EGG with any grilling or barbequing set-up.

Sliding 2nd Level:

It's now possible to add a second level. The 2nd level only works on the current Medium Woo with 15" diameter top ring and straight handles.

If you have one of our original Medium Woo's with 14.5" diameter top ring and no or bent handles, call us. We'll look up your order and offer you a 50% discount on a new Medium Woo. Note, the current Medium Woo requires the current Medium Big Green EGG Grid.

Important Medium EGG Grid Requirements:

• The Medium Expander fits the current 16-inch (15.75-inch actual) diameter Medium Big Green EGG cooking grid. If you have the older 15-inch grid, you will need to upgrade. EGG no longer offers the 15-inch grid.
• To use Big Green EGG's Medium Cast Iron Grid atop the Expander, you need to remove the handles. Note, we do not recommend raising cast iron grids or griddles, as it pushes the cast iron away from the heat it needs to impart the grill marks. Cast iron is best used close to the fire.

Which Medium Expander to Order:

• Smooth top surface on fire ring (current) - 3 Leg Expander,
• 3 ConvEGGtor notches on top of fire ring - 3 Leg Expander,
• 5 shallow dimples on top of fire ring (old original) - 5 Leg Expander.

Lump Baskets & Wok for Medium EGG:

1. The Expander does not interfere with Big Green EGG and Kick Ash Baskets.
2. The Expander can hold a 12-inch round wok. If you plan to wok a bunch, consider going with our Medium Spider, as it does not have handles and offers two ways to set the wok. The wok rack is recommended as it is handy for holding the round bottom wok outside the grill.

Fabrication Specifications:

Egg's ConvEGGtor does not fit the Medium Expander.

The Expander material is 1/4-inch round Stainless Steel. It is tig welded for added strength. The top ring outside diameter is 15-inches. The lower ring outside diameter is 10.75-inches.
