Our Preferred Setup

For both grilling and low & slow BBQ on the Primo Oval XXL 500:

• High-Heat Grilling: Remove the factory lump grate to maximize airflow and achieve higher searing temperatures faster.
• Low & Slow BBQ: Leave the lump grate in place to slow airflow slightly and maintain steady, controlled burns.

Tip: Shake the Basket before each cook to remove loose ash and maintain consistent airflow throughout long cooks.

Not all baskets use true 304 stainless, the same wire thickness, or maintain correct internal spacing — all of which affect durability and compatibility. Charcoal can repeatedly reach temperatures approaching 1800°F, making material quality critical.
