For two-zone cooking on the Joe Jr., we recommend using a half-moon deflector on the CGS Joe Junior Expander rather than dividing the charcoal basket.

The Basket improves airflow and allows you to quickly shake loose ash before each cook for cleaner burns and more responsive temperature control on your Kamado Joe Jr.

Divider Availability

Due to the compact size of the Joe Jr. firebox, a charcoal divider is not recommended for this model. The limited cooking surface and lump capacity make traditional two-zone charcoal splits impractical in most cases.

For true two-zone grilling (direct and indirect), we recommend using one CGS 10-inch half-moon deflector on the CGS Joe Jr. Expander – Woo. This setup provides better heat separation and more usable cooking space than a basket divider.

The Kick Ash Can sits in the bottom of your Joe Jr. firebox to collect ash for quick, contained removal.

Our Preferred Setup

For best results on the Kamado Joe Junior:

• High-Heat Grilling: Remove the factory lump grate to maximize airflow and reach higher temperatures faster.
• Low & Slow BBQ: Leave the lump grate in place to mimic the grill’s natural slower airflow.

Tip: Shake the Basket before each cook to remove loose ash and maintain consistent airflow.
