Raised Grid, Dual-Zone & Second-Level Cooking for MiniMax

The CGS Woo Expander is a simple way to raise the cooking grid, add a heat deflector for indirect cooking, create a dual-zone setup, or add a second cooking level in the MiniMax Big Green Egg.

The Woo raises the cooking grid slightly above the top of the base for raised-grid grilling. Setup is simple: place the Woo on the fire ring, add the cooking grid, and start grilling.

One advantage of the Woo over the Egg ConvEGGtor setup is easier access to the lump. Instead of disassembling the cooking setup, just lift the Woo by the handles – the deflector, drip pan, cooking grid and food all come out together.

Indirect & Dual-Zone Cooking

Pair Half-Moon Deflectors for Barbeque

The Woo pairs well with two CGS 10" half-moon deflectors for indirect barbeque, providing broad heat protection under the cooking grid. Add a 10" stainless drip pan to help protect the deflectors and Egg from drippings. Foiling the drip pan can also make cleanup easier.

Important: CGS ceramic spacers cannot be used with this deflector-and-drip-pan setup. The MiniMax Big Green Egg ConvEGGtor also does not fit inside the Woo.

Dual-Zone Cooking

For dual-zone grilling, set one half-moon deflector on the Woo's lower ring – just under the cooking grid. A CGS 10" half-moon deflector works, but a BGE 12" half-moon deflector will provide wider indirect coverage under the 13" diameter grid. A 12" half-moon is pictured below left.

Note: Two 12" half-moon deflectors do not fit the top or bottom rings.

The Woo also works well for pizza, pictured above right. Use two CGS 10" ceramic stones with 5/8" ceramic spacers between them. The spacers create an air gap between the lower deflector and upper pizza stone while helping position the pizza stone higher in the dome.

CGS Ceramic Spacers are available on our Ceramic Pizza Stone page.

Add a Sliding Second Cooking Grid

The CGS Sliding Second Grid Bundle adds a functional second cooking level to your MiniMax Big Green Egg, giving you more usable cooking space. The Sliding Second Grid Bundle requires the current CGS MiniMax Woo.

Special Offer: If you have one of our original MiniMax Woos with no handles or with the lower ring dropping inside the fire ring, give us a call. We can look up your previous order and offer 50% off a current MiniMax Woo.

How the Sliding Grid Works

The bundle uses two components to create a stable second cooking level while keeping the lower grid accessible.

MiniMax Woo Specifications & Fitment

The MiniMax Woo is fabricated from 1/4" 304 stainless round bar and made in the USA in our fabrication shop.

The Woo raises the main cooking grid approximately 2". It can sit lower by positioning the Woo legs in the notches at the top of the fire ring.

Lump Baskets & Woks

  • The Woo does not interfere with Big Green Egg or Kick Ash charcoal baskets.
  • The Woo with handles is not designed to hold a wok. Use the CGS MiniMax Accessory Ring - Spider for 12" wok cooking.

Important - Pre-2015 MiniMax

If your MiniMax is newer than 2015, you can skip this section.

In late 2015, Big Green Egg changed the MiniMax fire ring, increasing the drop from the felt line to the fire ring. The earlier version measured approximately 0.75", while the later/current version measures approximately 1.50".

The Woo will fit the older MiniMax. You may find it works best with the Woo legs positioned in the three ConvEGGtor notches, which places the cooking grid lower in the dome.

Did you know: CGS introduced the sliding second-grid concept to kamado grills in 2013 with the Large Adjustable Rig Extender and 16" Sliding Grid. Over the years we've refined the design while keeping the same basic idea: add another cooking level while still making the lower grid easy to reach.
