Choose the size and shape that best fits your grill or rack system. Options include a single half-moon, pair of half-moons, or full round deflector. We also carry select manufacturer replacement deflectors throughout the website.

If you already know the size you need, shop here by size and shape. If you need more help, check your grill's specific product page for recommended deflectors and drip pans.

Choose Your Deflector Shape

Single Half-Moon

Best for two-zone grilling

Use one half-moon to create a direct side and an indirect side. Perfect for grilling with dual temperature zones.

Pair of Half-Moons

Best all-around choice

Use a pair of half-moons for full indirect, low-and-slow barbeque cooks. This is usually the most versatile option because the two-piece design works across more setup options.

Double Indirect - CGS XL Adjustable Rig

Full Round

Best as a pizza stone

Use a full round deflector as a dedicated pizza stone. It is a simple option when you want one solid ceramic piece.

Our recommendation: For most kamado cooks, a pair of half-moon deflectors offers the most flexibility.

Half-moons are easier to place, easier to remove, more adaptable for full indirect barbeque setups, ideal for two-zone grilling, fully capable of baking pizza, and usually less expensive to replace.

Pizza Stone Note

If you cook pizza frequently, a full round deflector is a great dedicated option. With pizza, bigger is not always better. Wider stones are harder to handle and temperature control can become more difficult. 12-inch to 14-inch pizzas are generally recommended.

Recommended Add-Ons

Drip Pan

For longer cooks, we strongly recommend using a drip pan above the deflector. It helps protect the ceramic, reduces grease buildup, and keeps your kamado cleaner.

Ceramic Spacers

CGS Ceramic Spacers create an air gap between the deflector and drip pan, helping reduce heat transfer, burnt drippings, and off-odors during barbeque cooks.

2-inch ceramic spacers set on their side to create an air gap between heat deflectors and a drip pan in a Kamado Joe Divide and Conquer setup.

On pizza cooks, spacers create a gap between the deflector and pizza stone for more consistent pizza stone temperatures.

Specs, Care & FAQs

Deflector Size & Specifications

Generally, our deflector tolerances are within ± 1/4-inch of the stated size and approximately 5/8-inch thick.

The 18-inch size is the exception. It measures approximately 18-1/2 inches across and about 13/16-inch thick.

The material is high-heat cordierite-mullite refractory ceramic.

Use Tips
  • Place the deflector in the grill during warm-up to reduce thermal shock
  • Use a drip pan to protect the ceramic surface
  • Avoid rapid temperature changes
Care & Maintenance
  • Do not use soap or detergents
  • Do not clean in a dishwasher
  • Scrape off debris and burn off residue at moderate temperatures
  • Expect natural darkening from use
How do I find the recommended deflector for my grill?

If your grill is listed on our site, check the related products. We typically list recommended deflectors and drip pans in the product description.

If your grill is not listed, call us for help choosing the right size.

Can I foil the deflectors?

You can, but creases in foil can create pinholes that may leak. Avoid wrapping the bottom side, as extreme heat can damage the foil. For most cooks, a drip pan is the better option.

Can they be used as both a deflector and pizza stone?

Yes. For pizza, we recommend parchment paper or cornmeal to help prevent sticking. Using a drip pan during barbeque cooks helps keep the deflector cleaner for pizza.

Will heat escape between two half-moons?

Yes, but the amount is minimal and does not meaningfully affect cooking performance.

Can I high-heat clean burn a deflector?

We do not recommend high-heat clean burns. It is best to use a drip pan during the cook. A high-heat cleaning can increase the chance of cracking or breaking any ceramic deflector.
