Create Straight or Angled Charcoal Zones

The CGS Flexible Charcoal Dividers for Weber Summit Kamado E6 and S6 grills let you create straight, angled, or concentrated charcoal zones for two-zone cooking.

The two adjustable 304 stainless steel dividers work on the Summit Kamado’s upper or lower charcoal grate and inside the Weber Summit Kick Ash Basket.

Charcoal Dividers on the Weber Summit Kamado Grate

Position the dividers directly on the Summit Kamado charcoal grate and angle them to create the charcoal pattern that works best for your cook.

The dividers can be arranged to create approximately a ¼-circle, ½-circle, ¾-circle, or straight side-to-side partition. When forming an angle of less than 180 degrees, the divider legs overlap slightly.

CGS Ang-L Charcoal Dividers positioned straight across the Weber Summit Kamado charcoal grate to create a 50/50 charcoal partition.

CGS Ang-L Charcoal Dividers positioned on the lower Weber Summit Kamado charcoal grate to create a straight charcoal zone.

CGS Ang-L Charcoal Dividers angled on the lower Weber Summit Kamado charcoal grate to create a one-quarter charcoal zone.

CGS Ang-L Charcoal Dividers on the upper Weber Summit Kamado charcoal grate creating a two-thirds charcoal zone.

For proper positioning, install the dividers with the legs facing outward and away from the lump charcoal. Do not place charcoal on top of the divider feet. Keeping the feet clear allows air to move properly through the charcoal bed.

Charcoal Dividers in the Kick Ash Basket

The Ang-L Dividers work the same way inside the Kick Ash Basket. Position them straight across for a side-to-side split or angle them to create a varied charcoal area.

Why Use a Charcoal Divider?

You can create a smaller fire by simply piling lump charcoal against the curved wall of the grill. However, the charcoal bed becomes progressively shallower as it moves toward the center. That uneven charcoal depth can produce an uneven-burning fire and inconsistent temperatures across the cooking grid.

The Ang-L Dividers create a second wall opposite the curved bowl wall, keeping the charcoal at a consistent depth. A uniform charcoal bed produces a more even-burning fire and more consistent grilling temperatures above it.

The dividers also make it easier to:

  • Use less charcoal for smaller meals
  • Create dedicated direct and indirect cooking zones
  • Concentrate high heat beneath a smaller searing area
  • Keep the fire positioned away from food during two-zone cooking
  • Adjust the size and shape of the fire for different setups

Try This Cook: Two-Zone Spatchcock Chicken

This cook is shown in an XL Big Green EGG, but the same setup works in the Weber Summit Kamado.

Position the dividers to fill approximately one-third of the charcoal area and stabilize the grill at a dome temperature of 350–375°F. Place a piece of foil on the charcoal grate beneath the indirect side of the cooking grid to the catch drippings.

Begin with the chicken skin-side down directly over the lump charcoal to start rendering and browning the skin. Then move the chicken to the opposite side of the cooking grid, positioning the breast away from the fire, to finish roasting with indirect heat.

Near the end of the cook, move the chicken back over the charcoal skin-side down as needed to finish crisping the skin.
