Product Description
Ceramic Heat Deflectors & Pizza Stones for Most 24" Kamado Grills
The CGS 18" ceramic deflectors are available as a pair of half-moon heat deflectors or as a full-round pizza stone for many kamado grills with nominal 22" to 24" main cooking grids, with the Kamado Joe Big Joe being a notable exception.
Use a pair of half-moon deflectors with compatible rack systems to create full indirect coverage for low & slow barbeque, roasting and other full indirect cooks. Use two sets for a double-indirect setup, as pictured below.

Use a single half-moon to create two-zone grilling with direct and indirect zones. The two-zone configuration makes it easy to grill with different temperatures at the same time.

The full-round stone is best suited for pizza and baking but can also provide indirect coverage in specific rack setups.

Before Ordering: Fitment and positioning depend on the grill and rack system being used. Cooking-grid diameter alone does not guarantee fitment. Check the applicable CGS grill or rack-system product page for the recommended deflector size, support position and setup details.
Recommended Uses:
Popular 18" ceramic deflector and pizza stone applications include:
- XL Big Green EGG: Compatible CGS XL Woo, CGS XL Adjustable Rig, CGS XL Spider, CGS Flexible 2nd Grid and XL EGGspander dual-zone system
- Weber Summit Kamado E6 & S6: CGS Spider and Flexible 2nd Grid
- Pit Boss 24: Compatible CGS rack and Spider setups
- Louisiana Grills 24: Compatible CGS rack and Spider setups
- Pizza Stone: It's a big stone. The 16" stone is a better choice if you don't make really big pizzas.
Kamado Joe Big Joe: Big Joe half-moon deflectors are 19.5" in diameter. Do not select the 18" deflectors unless you plan to use them only on the Accessory Rack. The full-round stone can be used for pizza.

Why Choose Half-Moon Heat Deflectors?
Half-moons give you more flexibility than a single full-round deflector.
- Two-zone grilling: Use one half-moon to create direct and indirect cooking zones
- Full indirect barbeque: Combine two halves for complete indirect coverage
- Compatibility: Pair half-moons with other accessories on the same rack level
- Easier handling: Two smaller pieces are easier to handle and store
- Lower replacement cost: If one half breaks, you only need to replace that piece
- Easier fire access: Remove or reposition one half to reach the charcoal during a cook
Setting Up the Full-Round Pizza Stone
For pizza cooks, position the full-round pizza stone above a separate heat deflector with an air gap between the two ceramic surfaces. The lower deflector blocks direct heat from the charcoal, while the elevated stone provides the baking surface.
For even heating, use a lower blocking stone that is at least as large as the baking stone. Position the baking stone high in the dome when your setup allows, while staying clear of the thermometer stem.
Use cornmeal or parchment paper between the dough and stone to help prevent sticking. Check the applicable CGS grill or rack-system page for the recommended deflector size, spacing and stone height.
Using a Drip Pan
For barbeque cooks, we strongly recommend placing a stainless steel drip pan above the ceramic heat deflector.
Ceramic is porous and can absorb grease and moisture. Reheating trapped moisture can create steam inside the ceramic and place additional stress on the stone.
Double-wrap the drip pan with foil in a '+' pattern. This makes cleanup much easier.
Benefits of Ceramic Spacers
CGS Ceramic Spacers create an air gap above the heat deflector and can improve your setup in several ways:
- Under a drip pan: Helps reduce scorching and burnt drippings
- Between deflectors: Creates separation in double-indirect setups
- Under a pizza stone: Adds lift and creates thermal separation between the deflector and baking stone

Care & Maintenance
- Do not use soap, detergents or chemical cleaners on the porous ceramic.
- Do not clean the ceramic in a dishwasher or submerge it in water.
- Scrape away food debris and gently burn off remaining residue at moderate temperatures as needed.
- Use a drip pan to help protect the ceramic from grease buildup.
- Avoid extreme high-heat cleaning burns, which can damage the kamado.
- Allow the ceramic to heat and cool gradually whenever possible.
- Expect the natural ceramic surface to darken with normal use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will these 18" deflectors fit a kamado with an 18" cooking grid?
No. Deflectors need to be smaller than the cooking grid. Fitment also depends on the grill's internal dimensions and rack system. Check the applicable CGS grill or rack-system page before ordering.
Will these work with a Kamado Joe Big Joe?
Big Joe deflectors are 19.5" in diameter. Note: You need the Big Joe Accessory Rack to support the 18" deflectors in the Divide & Conquer system. The 18" deflectors will not fit the lowest Divide & Conquer ring that drops inside the firebowl.
Will heat escape through the gap between the two half-moons?
A small amount of heat can rise through the center seam, but the gap is narrow and does not meaningfully affect indirect cooking performance.
Can half-moons be used as a pizza stone?
A pair of half-moons can be used as an occasional pizza-baking surface when properly supported. For regular pizza cooks, we recommend a dedicated full-round pizza stone.
Can I cover the deflectors with aluminum foil?
You can cover the top surface, but folds and creases can create small holes that allow grease to leak through. Avoid wrapping the underside where foil would be exposed to direct fire. A properly sized stainless steel drip pan is the cleaner and more reliable option.
Can I clean the ceramic with a high-heat burn?
We do not recommend aggressive high-heat cleaning burns. Scrape away loose debris and gently burn off residue at moderate temperatures. Using a drip pan helps prevent heavy grease buildup.
