The Pan delivers maximum coverage and durability while shielding your heat deflectors and ceramics from messy drippings.
Ceramic deflectors absorb moisture like sponges. Trapped moisture can steam, stress the ceramic, and eventually lead to cracks. Using a 16-inch drip pan helps:

Note: The 16-inch Drip Pan is too large to fit inside the Divide & Conquer’s lowest level. For the lowest position, side the firebox, use a CGS 14-inch drip pan.
For best results, elevate the drip pan above the deflector. The Divide & Conquer's Accessory Ring or CGS Spacers lift the pan just enough to:

This is the largest drip pan that properly fits above the firebox on Kamado Joe Classic grills. It fully covers your deflectors to catch drippings. 18-inch pans are too large.
At CGS, we prefer not to add liquid to the drip pan during BBQ cooks. Unlike offset smokers that constantly move air, kamados hold heat and moisture exceptionally well. Extra liquid raises humidity, which can impede bark development - and bark is what everyone likes.
