Replacement Fire Grates for Joe Jr., Classic Joe & Big Joe

Replace a worn, cracked, or damaged fire grate with a genuine Kamado Joe cast iron charcoal grate. Located at the bottom of the firebox, the grate supports the lump charcoal while allowing combustion air to flow up through the fire.

The openings in the grate also allow ash and small charcoal pieces to fall below, helping maintain airflow through the charcoal bed during the cook.

Replacement fire grates are available for Joe Jr., Classic Joe, Big Joe, and compatible Pro Joe grills.

Important: Konnected Joe grills do not use one of these charcoal grates.

Cast Iron Fire Grate Highlights

  • Heavy-Duty Cast Iron: Built to withstand the intense heat generated inside the Kamado Joe firebox.
  • Supports Lump Charcoal: Sits at the bottom of the firebox and supports the charcoal bed above the lower air inlet.
  • Maintains Charcoal Airflow: Openings allow combustion air to move up through the charcoal while giving ash a path to fall below.
  • Genuine Kamado Joe Replacement: Factory replacement fire grate designed for compatible Kamado Joe ceramic grills.
  • Simple Drop-In Replacement: The grate rests in the bottom of the firebox with no mounting hardware required.

Cast iron fire grates live in one of the hottest areas of the grill. After years of repeated heating and cooling, the grate can eventually crack, warp, or deteriorate.

Replace the grate if it is cracked, broken, badly warped, or no longer supports the charcoal properly in the bottom of the firebox.

Charcoal Basket or Cast Iron Grate?

The cast iron fire grate is the traditional factory support for lump charcoal. If you use a charcoal basket, check the basket manufacturer's instructions to determine whether the original cast iron grate should remain in the grill or be removed.

Pro Tip: Remove the cast iron grate when grilling at higher temperatures, above 300°F. Removing it opens up the bottom of the grill for better airflow and faster starts.

Use the cast iron charcoal grate under the basket when smoking at lower temperatures, under 300°F. The additional restriction slows the airflow and more closely mimics the natural draw used for low-and-slow cooks.

What's Included: One genuine Kamado Joe cast iron charcoal fire grate. Grill, charcoal basket, firebox components, and other accessories are not included.
