Description
Recommended Sizes & Setups for the Classic Joe
Use this guide to choose the best ceramic heat deflector, stainless drip pan, or pizza stone setup for your Kamado Joe Classic Joe. For in-depth detail, check the specific products and rack systems on our website.
Drip Pan: The CGS 16" Round Stainless Drip Pan is recommended for the upper levels of the Divide & Conquer system. Use the 14" drip pan when positioning it on the lowest level inside the firebowl.
Line the pan with foil for easier cleanup.
Pizza Setup
Best Pizza Stone: 15" Full Round
The CGS 15" full-round stone is our preferred pizza stone size for the Classic Joe. Add CGS ceramic spacers underneath the pizza stone to create an insulating air gap between the heat deflector and pizza stone.
We do not recommend going larger than 15". An oversized stone can restrict airflow, especially at higher pizza-baking temperatures.
- Other option: 14" full-round stone
CGS Adjustable Rig Grid/Hanger Combo
Best Deflector: Pair of 15" Half-Moons
Use the 15" half-moon deflectors that came with your Kamado Joe Classic Joe. Use both halves together for full-indirect cooking, or use one half-moon to create a two-zone grilling setup.
- Other option: CGS 15" half-moon deflectors
Kamado Joe Divide & Conquer
Best Deflector: Pair of 15" Half-Moons
The Kamado Joe 15" half-moon deflectors are the logical choice since they came with the grill. Use both halves together for full-indirect cooking, or use one half-moon for two-zone grilling.
- Other option: CGS 15" half-moon deflectors
CGS Classic Spider
Best Deflector: Pair of 14" Half-Moons
Use CGS 14" half-moon deflectors for low-position indirect setups inside the firebowl. This size also works well when creating two-zone cooking closer to the charcoal.
Important: 15" deflectors are too large and will not fit properly on the Classic Spider.
Double-Indirect Setup
Best Deflectors: Two Pairs of 15" Half-Moons
Using the same size deflectors at both levels creates the most consistent double-indirect setup. With the Divide & Conquer system, the half-moons can be positioned at different levels as needed for your cooking configuration.
Ceramic Spacers
Best Size: 2" x 1.5" x 1.5"
Use the 2" ceramic spacers positioned on their 1.5" side. This creates a stable air gap and solid support for a drip pan or pizza stone positioned above the heat deflector.
