The PSWoo is a simple solution to gain additional convenience and capacity.
You have two options:
PSWoo raises the Large EGG cooking grid and handles the ConvEGGtor.
The Extender elevates and guides the 16" Sliding D Grid.
Did you know: Our PSWoo Expander is the original, and to the best of our knowledge, the only Kamado rack system that carries a US Patent. We are also the inventors of the second level sliding grid system. If a manufacturer has something similar, it is a China-made imitation. The PSWoo Expander components are proudly made in the USA.
It is a quick video on the PSWoo system. If you need more help, please call us.
Go big, go half-moon, go full round or oval, with the PSWoo & Spider you have options on size and shape for a heat deflector. It is certainly not our best video, but it covers the important points.....LOL.
The PSWoo has 3 critical features that the EGG EGGspander does not have:
1. With the PSWoo, you do not touch the grid, drip pan or food to remove the ConvEGGtor. The ConvEGGtor slides in & out from the side. With the EGGspander, you have to remove the grid, food, and drip pan, as the ConvEGGtor lifts in & out from the top.
2. The PSWoo can sit on the Large EGG cooking grid. You do not have to buy two extra, half-moon grids to have a lower grid. Watch the video, and if you still want a top half-moon cooking grid, pick up one CGS' 9x18 Half Stainless Grid.
3. You will save a bunch of cash by going with the PSWoo.
A side-by-side comparison, PSWoo vs. EGGspander, can be found here.
Strongly Recommend a Drip Pan: Adding a drip pan protects the ConvEGGtor and keeps the EGG clean. CGS 14" Stainless Drip Pan (left) matches up nicely to the ConvEGGtor's circular shape. CGS 16" Stainless Drip Pan (right) expands coverage out to the 3 legs - great for big meats. No need to worry about the 16" wide diameter impacting airflow, as it sits a good bit above the fire ring. We actually prefer the 16 Drip Pan over the 14. Both Stainless Pans are reusable, simply foil for easy clean up.
We recommend shying away from using cast iron atop any raised grid configuration. Cast iron needs heat to do its thing - create the checkerboard grill marks. By raising the CI grid, we are, in effect, moving it away from the heat it needs to do its thing. The higher we place it; the less effective cast iron becomes. The only way to counter-balance height is to run the EGG hotter. Why run hotter when it is easier to drop the CI grid closer to the fire!
PSWoo is fabricated by us in our wire shop using 1/4" 304 Stainless Steel. It raises the Large EGG cooking grid 4-1/8". Two handles and one back support connect top and bottom rings.
Extender is fabricated by us in our wire fabrication shop using 1/4" 304 Stainless Steel. It holds and guides the 16" Sliding D Grid. The Extender is 3.5" tall.
16" Sliding D Grid dimensions are configured on a 16" diameter grid with the short (flat) side measuring 14.5" deep. The grid crosswires are approximately 1/2" on-center to better handle secondary cooks like veggies, foiled pouches. The grid is fabricated in the USA using 3/16" 304 Stainless Steel. It slides easily on the Extender.
PS stands for platesetter, the original name for today's ConvEGGtor. Woo comes from Woodoggies, the EGGhead on the EGG forum who received the first Woo ring around two decades ago. So, PS+Woo= PSWoo. Had we known back then our future, we would have put more thought into our product names.....LOL.
Note: Big Green EGG accessories are shown for illustrative purposes and not included with the PSWoo or PSWoo Combo
These are the popular accessories folks use with the PSWoo.
