Raise the EGG grid, easily handle the ConvEGGtor, add a second tier grid in the Large Big Green EGG.

THE FIRST: Our Expander is the original, and to the best of our knowledge, the only Kamado rack system that carries a US Patent. We are also the inventors of the second level sliding grid system. If a grill manufacturer has something similar, it is probably a China-made imitation. The PSWoo Expander components are proudly made in the USA. Help us support the USA craftsmen who design, invent & fabricate........it is truly appreciated!

Strongly Recommend a Drip Pan:  Adding a drip pan protects the ConvEGGtor and keeps the EGG clean. CGS' 14" Stainless Drip Pan (left) matches up nicely to the ConvEGGtor's circular shape. CGS' 16" Stainless Drip Pan (right) expands coverage out to the 3 legs - great for big meats. No need to worry about the 16 impacting airflow, as it sits a good bit above the fire ring. We actually prefer the 16 Drip Pan over the 14. Both Stainless Pans are reusable, simply foil for easy clean up.

Three critical differences between the CGS Expander and EGG EGGspander.

  1. With the PSWoo, you handle the ConvEGGtor from the side without touching the food or grid. With EGG's EGGspander, the top grid and food need to be removed to get to the ConvEGGtor. Folks really appreciate the PSWoo's simplicity in handing the ConvEGGtor.
  2. The PSWoo can sit atop the Large Big Green EGG grid. So, you do not need the two half grids that come in the 5 piece EGGspander package. If you want the half grid option atop the PSWoo, pick up one CGS' 9x18 Half Stainless Grid.
  3. You will save a bunch of cash going with the PSWoo.

Our Recommendation: If you own the ConvEGGtor and are looking to raise the EGG grid, enjoy quick access to the lump, easily manage a hot ConvEGGtor and maybe add one more cooking level, then go PSWoo.

Check the PSWoo Video below for more details. The Spider-Cool Tab has a quick video on how to use Half Stone Deflectors instead of the ConvEGGtor.

Help us support Made in America. The PSWoo components are fabricated using USA drawn 304 Stainless Steel wire. The PSWoo and Extender are fabricated by us in our wire fabrication shop. The 16" Sliding D Grid is fabricated in the USA for us.

The PSWoo and Extender are fabricated using 1/4" Stainless Round Bar. The PSWoo works with the Large EGG Stainless grid. With the Extender, the spacing between top and bottom grid is approximately 3.5".

The D Grid's dimensions are configured on a 16" diameter grid with the short (flat) side measuring 14.5" deep. The D Grid matches up nicely with the large firebox for even heat distribution. The Grid's crosswires are approximately 1/2" on-center to better handle secondary cooks like veggies, foiled pouches and such. The Sliding D Grid is fabricated using 3/16" 304 EPQ Stainless Steel and is electro-polished for improved performance. The EPQ wire and finish make it easier to clean the grid after each cook.

Note on Cast Iron Grids

We recommend shying away from using cast iron atop any raised grid configuration. Cast iron needs heat to do its thing - create the cool grill marks. By raising the CI grid, we are, in effect, moving it away from the heat it needs to do its thing. The higher we place it, the less effective it becomes. The only way to counter-balance height is to run the EGG hotter. Why run hotter when it is easier to drop the CI grid closer to the fire!

Awesome

I should have bought this 10 years ago when I bought my Egg. Along with the Spider I bought a few years ago, I cn create more levels to have grids. Provides a way to mimic a Santa Maria grill in some ways.

Incredible

Just got my first BGE and saw a post online recommending this as an essential. My first smoke was great, it was super convenient to pull the diffuser out and substantially cheaper than the official BGE alternative. Also, it arrived at my door within 24 hours somehow. Maybe we're neighbors??

Purchased as a gift

I am not able to give an accurate review for this item (grill expander) since I purchased it as a Christmas gift for my son. He’s an avid, and excellent cook, and uses his Big Green Egg almost weekly to cook in bulk for the week. He researched the items he wanted and felt this would be a great addition since it would give him expanded capabilities when cooking for larger groups. Or cooking different meats that cook at different temperatures. Will ask him to post a review.

Great quality

I received my product quickly and well packaged. I have not had time to use it yet but I am impressed with the superior quality. I did a dry run with it and it makes moving to whole unit effortless. Will up date when I have my first cook this week.

Exactly what a BGE needs

I did a lot of reading on BGE groups and watched the comparison video Tom made and decided on the Woo. Owning the plate setter or conveggtor already I wanted the ability to remove mid-cook easily. We do a lot of chops and steaks and I prefer the reverse sear. It was great for Turkey and allowed me to rotate and refill the drip pan during a cook. Will get the top grate add on down the road for sure. Feel like Rick Flair....WOO
