Kick Ash Basket vs. Kamado Joe Basket:
Here is why we prefer the Kick Ash Basket over the Kamado Joe basket:
- Kick Ash Basket has handles for easy handling.
- Important: The top hooks on the Kamado Joe basket prevent both half-moon heat deflectors from sitting on the Divide and Conquer's lowest level. The Kick Ash Basket does not interfere with the deflectors.
-
There is more adjustability using CGS's Basket Divider vs. Kamado Joe's Divider.
We found using the Divide & Conquer (D&C) to hook and lift the Joe Basket a bit "ass-backwards". When lifting, you are holding the wrong piece. You need to set the Basket down, unhook, then set the D&C down. This requires two reasonably big spots to set the Basket and D&C.
It just much easier to pull the D&C and set it aside. Then pull the Basket out by the hooks, empty and return. Note, the Kick Ash Basket handles are much easier to manage than the Joe Basket hooks.
Classic Kamado Joe Basket Features:

Optional Kick Ash Can, KAC-9.7
The Kick Ash Can sits in the bottom of your Kamado Joe. In order to use the Can, you'll need to:
- remove the lump grate that came with your Kamado Joe.
- remove the sliding ash tray assembly in Classic and Big Joe grills.
- Use a Kick Ash or Kamado Joe Ash Basket.
How to Use: Place the Can in the bottom of your Kamado Joe. After each cook, shake the ash out of the basket, let it fall into the Can, remove the Can, dispose of the ash into a nonflammable container and return the Can to the Kamado Joe. Put the Basket back and you are ready to go. In all, it will take less than 2 minutes.
Important: To use the Can in Classic and Big Joe grills, you need to remove the sliding ash tray. In doing so, you are removing, eliminating, the face plate that affects airflow and minimizes the possibility for embers to blow out the open vent. See picture:
