The Spider can set-up for a smoking, low & slow, BBQ cook. An indirect piece, usually a ceramic stone, is placed on the Spider and acts as the heat deflector. The cooking grid is placed on the fire ring/box or Adjustable Rig. No need for the Woo Ring as most Woo Rings have the Spider built-in.

post it note for helpful tip Whenever possible, we advocate building the entire set-up on the Adjustable Rig. Do not use the Spider. The Rig will give you the best configuration for air flow.

important feature, function or fact On picking the correct size stone for the Spider, we recommend at least a 3/4" inch gap between the stone's edge and the fire ring/box's inner wall. This will insure proper airflow during long cooks. On the XL size grills (20" plus cooking grids), a minimum 1" - 1.5" gap is best.

important feature, function or fact If using an aluminum pan on the Spider, we strongly recommend placing a stone under the pan. Accidents do happen when managing cooking temperatures. If the grill gets hot enough, the aluminum can melt. We offer Stainless Steel drip pans in our shopping section. Ceramic grills can't get hot enough to melt Stainless.

As pictured above, you can see the air circulation is virtually unobstructed for 360° around the entire set-up. This 360° open pattern is preferred when using indirect pieces.

post it note for helpful tipCaution: When setting up with the grid on the fire ring/box, make sure the heat can properly escape the fire ring/box. Don't overload the grid. Last thing you want to do is trap the heat under the grid.

Half Stone: It is possible to set-up with a half stone on the Spider. It's the perfect way to create a two zone set-up over the grid above.
