From 2008 to 2012, the Big Green Egg® XL grill went through a number of improvements.  So, you'll need to confirm how the XL Adjustable Rig works with your grill.

With all XL eggs, the XL Adjustable Rig can sit directly on the fire ring.  Add the 20" Round or 16"x20" Oval Stainless Grid atop the Rig for grilling on a raised grid.  For low & slow BBQ cooks, add the 17.5" Round Ceramic Stone under either grid and you'll have the best indirect (BBQ) set-up across all ceramic grills.

With most XL eggs, the Rig can be paired with the XL Woo or the Big Green Egg® ConveGGtor (platesetter).  Either is a fabulous pairing for multi-grid or super raised grid cooks.  To determine if the Rig can be paired with the XL Woo or ConveGGtor in your grill, you'll need to take a quick measurement on your grill.

If your grill is new or a couple years old, you should be OK but it would not hurt to confirm  the measurement outlined below:

  • set the XL Big Green Egg® cooking grid on the fire ring and close the dome;
  • slide a tape through the daisy wheel until it hits the grid;
  • take the measurement at the daisy wheel.  The measurement need not be exact, just in the ballpark of either 14", 15" or 16".
If your measurement is approximately 14" or 15", the Rig can not be used with the XL Woo or ConveGGtor.  As mentioned above, you can still use the Rig on the fire ring for grilling on a raised grid or BBQing on the best set-up among ceramic grills.

If your measurement is approximately 16" - it's good news.  The Rig can be used with the XL Woo or ConveGGtor for super raised or multi-grid set-ups.  Plus, the Rig can sit directly on the XL's fire ring for grilling or BBQing with the best set-up.
