Adjustable Rig for the Large Big Green Egg® - Introduction
Quick run down on the Rig's key features
The Adjustable Rig (Rig) is one of the first pieces we designed for our own use, over a decade ago. Over the years, it has grown in popularity and we are excited to say - it's worldwide. Many ceramic grill owners have reported that the Adjustable Rig is their "go to" platform and with the wide variety of Rig accessories, it's their only platform.
In a few words, the Adjustable Rig is a simple to use “multi-level” platform. The Rig can be combined with grids, stones, pans and such to grill, barbeque, bake (pizza) or Dutch oven on one or more levels. The Adjustable Rig is easy to set-up, will not hinder airflow, weighs less than four pounds and can live in your grill. Plus, it is fabricated from 304 Grade Stainless Steel by us and built to last.
Measurement: If your large grill is pre 2005, we recommend you take one quick measurement before ordering. This is the best way to insure the Large Adjustable Rig fits.
- Measure the distance from the top of the fire ring to the felt rim on the base. The measurement should be approximately 4-1/4 inches.
If your measurement is not 4-1/4", contact us and we’ll see what we can do to get you set-up.
More than likely as you read the Adjustable Rig information you may be a little overwhelmed. Don't worry! What you are actually recognizing is the true versatility of the Adjustable Rig.
Many new Rig owners tell us that they easily duplicate the set-ups and it does not take long for the set-ups to become routine. Our best advice is use these Rig pages to prioritize your cooking needs. Then pick the Rig accessories that best matches those needs and start enjoying ceramic grillin' and Q'ing.
What's up with those notches on the Rig:
From time to time, we refer to levels or settings on the Rig. Simply, these are the notches on the Rig. For example, if we recommend putting a grid at the middle setting, it is nothing more than setting a grid in the middle of the Rig, 3" above the fire ring.
The lowest setting is 1.5 inches above the fire ring. The middle setting is 3 inches above the fire ring. The felt line setting is 4.5 inches above the fire ring, at the felt line.
What about the Crossbars
We use two "U" shaped Crossbars to hold grids, stones, pans and such in the Rig. The Crossbars slip into the notches. The front Crossbar spans the two front brackets. The back Crossbar spans the back two brackets. Just drop them in the brackets. In the picture above the Crossbars are in the middle setting, a great position for a stone or oval grid.
Check the Crossbar ends in the big picture at the very top of the page. When using the lower notch setting, the Crossbars need to rest on the Rig's lower ring, as pictured. This will insure a level platform with the Crossbars at this setting.
How tall is the Rig
The Rig is 6" tall. Sitting on the fire ring, to top ring is approximately 2" above the felt line. On top of the rig, you can set the Big Green Egg® stock grid or our Rig Extender. Good place to add a stone for pizza.
"Now this is Cool"
You can lift the entire set-up out of the cooker without taking it apart. One lift will bring the Rig, grids, stone, drip pan and Extender out! We handle the Rig in the chicken and rib videos. You'll love this capability!
